James Monroe’s Original Law Office (on Limestone Plantation)
Construction Techniques:
- Dismantled the existing chimney on James Monroe’s first law office, we laid these out brick by brick in a special format.
- The fireplace, hearth, and chimney had collapsed, we reopened this and rebuilt it with period correct brick.
- We used limestone mortar mix for all masonry work. We used slate from the property as well.
- We milled siding and installed this to the exterior and put a white washed finish.
- We milled period correct doors which were painted in a flat Charleston Green.
- We repointed the brick foundation walls.
- We rebuilt the entire chimney and rebuilt the cap.
- Resided the exterior of the building
- Restored the collapsing chimney brick by brick like a puzzle
- Rebuilt the fireplace and hearth that had caved in
- Created custom historically accurate doors at the saw mill, painted in historic colors to fit the property’s legacy
- Framing off and finishing a second-floor addition (with photos)
